Telangana GP Elections: BRS Scores Key Wins as Congress Suffers Major Setbacks

Telangana GP Elections Results 2025

In the second phase of the Telangana gram panchayat elections, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) gained significant ground as several Congress Ministers and MLAs saw their influence challenged in their own native villages. BRS-backed candidates captured key sarpanch seats, signalling growing grassroots strength for the party despite the Congress holding power in the State.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy suffered a notable jolt in Khammam district, where Banoth “Army” Ravi, supported by BRS, secured the Sarpanch post in Suddavagu Thanda with a clear majority after a high-profile local controversy. Similar setbacks were reported for Devarkadra MLA G. Madhusudhan Reddy in Damagnapur and Dornakal MLA and Government Whip Ramchander Naik in Reddykunta Thanda, where BRS-supported candidates prevailed over Congress-backed nominees.

Palakurthy MLA Yashaswini Reddy also faced embarrassment as a Congress rebel, D. Mahender, won the Sarpanch post in her native village Charlapally, under Thorur mandal. This pattern of reversals for ruling party leaders highlighted internal dissent and local dissatisfaction, even as Congress leaders alleged the use of money and muscle power during the polls.

According to the State Election Commission, the second phase covered elections to thousands of gram panchayats and ward member posts, with several positions decided unanimously before polling day. In many villages, the contests were extremely close, with some Sarpanch races decided by margins as narrow as one or two votes, underlining the intense local competition and the importance of every ballot cast.
